H+/O ratios in mitochondria from hypothyroid and euthyroid rats

Range Table - link unitless
Organism Rat Rattus norvegicus
Reference Hafner RP, Brand MD. Hypothyroidism in rats does not lower mitochondrial ADP/O and H+/O ratios. Biochem J. 1988 Mar 1 250(2):477-84. p.479 table 1PubMed ID2833245
Method "H+/O ratios were measured by the oxygen-pulse technique of Mitchell & Moyle (1967) in the presence of NEM [N-ethylmaleimide] to inhibit rapid phosphate movement (Brand et al., 1976b)."
Comments "H+/O ratios were measured under three sets of conditions for rats that had been made hypothyroid by treatment with PTU [6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil], and under one of these conditions for rats made hypothyroid by parathyroid-thyroidectomy. A sample trace of an experiment performed at 37 °C is shown in Fig. 1. The results are summarized in Table 1. There was no significant decrease in the H+/O ratios in mitochondria from hypothyroid rats relative to mitochondria from control rats under any of the three conditions." See note above table
