Comments "Quantitative data on the dimensions of the human gastric mucosa is scarce in the literature. Table I shows previously published data obtained at autopsy indicating a total gastric mucosal area ranging from 500 to 1500 cm^2. However, in vivo data from textbooks indicate that the full stomach has a volume of about 1 L, a corresponding sphere of this size has an area of about 500 cm^2. Similar data can be deduced from Bouras et al. [18]."
