Bone mass as a fraction of the total body mass

Value 9 %
Organism Ostrich Struthio camelus
Reference Brian Cotterell, Fracture and Life, Imperial College Press, 2010 p.77 top paragraph
Primary Source Prange et al., 1979
Comments "Surprisingly the bone mass as a percentage of total mass for birds is not that different to mammals of the same weight, with the fraction varying from about 6% for the smallest birds to about 8% for the heaviest flying birds. For an ostrich, which can weigh up to 150kg, the percentage is 9% (primary source)."
