Comments P.5334 right column 3rd paragraph: "Asexual generation (i.e. doubling) times range from 3 to 74 days, with c. 7 days being common in most corals (primary source), suggesting that somatic mutations are likely to be an important source of novel genetic variation with a relatively direct phenotypic effect due to the haploid nature of Symbiodinium. The important influence of Symbiodinium on a range of coral physiological traits indicates that selective forces on these algal symbionts can be strong under environmental change and suggest they may be key agents of evolution of corals."
