Value 7.3e+5 platelets/µL Range: ±70,000 platelets/µL
Organism Mouse Mus musculus

Comments P.852 right column 4th paragraph: "Survival is identical in Tph1−/− and wild-type mice, and blood platelet counts do not differ between wild-type mice (730,000 ± 70,000/μl n = 5) and TPH1-deficient mice (790,000 ± 200,000 n = 5). The platelets of Tph1−/− mice contain only minute amounts of 5-HT (Walther et al. 2003 and Höltje et al. 2003). Their morphology is normal as evaluated by electron microscopy, and they are able to take up 5-HT by SERT (Serotonin transporter) and to pack it into dense granules by VMAT2 (vesicular monoamine transporter 2) by a Gαq-modulated mechanism (Höltje et al., 2003)." TPH=tryptophan hydroxylase. Wikipedia: "Gq protein (Gαq, or Gq/11) is a heterotrimeric G protein subunit that activates phospholipase C (PLC)."
