Comments P.134 left column bottom paragraph: "All members of this versatile organelle family share the property of being surrounded by only a single phospholipid-bilayer membrane. They do not contain any detectable DNA, and may have a dense proteinaceous matrix. However, the morphology may differ largely. Most peroxisomes are small vesicles with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.2 µm, but in H. polymorpha, grown in the presence of methanol, a major part of the cell volume, even up to 80%, may be packed with a few large, cubic organelles with sizes up to 1.5 µm. For mammalian cells, there are many reports describing peroxisomal tubules and lamellae, or even peroxisomal reticular networks, possibly linked with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), in addition to the spherical organelles. Recent studies relate these additional forms to an involvement of the ER in the peroxisomal membrane formation [ref 7]." See BNID 106729
