Comments P.134 left column top paragraph: "Surprisingly, the hallmark enzyme catalase is absent from the organelles of some kinetoplastid species (Trypanosoma, Leishmania). The enzymic composition of glycosomes varies greatly during the life cycle of these protozoa. The parasite Trypanosoma brucei is completely dependent on glycolysis for its ATP supply when living in the mammalian bloodstream. Over 90% of the glycosomal protein content of these cells is made up of glycolytic enzymes, whereas in trypanosomes living in the tsetse fly, with their more elaborate metabolism, this value is only about 40-50%, and many other enzymes are then present in the glycosomal matrix (primary source)."
