Comments P.S48 left column bottom paragraph: "Pulmonary Interstitial Cells: The cells of the pulmonary interstitium are a mixed population of supporting cells that secrete elastin and collagen and cells in transit, mainly those of the mononuclear phagocytic system. Mitotic activity within the interstitium usually is quite low, only about 25% of the total for the whole lung, although this compartment contains at least 30% of all lung cells. With such figures and given the difficulties intrinsic to the identification of labeled cells or of cells in mitosis, it is not surprising that little is known about the turnover of individual cell types in the interstitium."
