Reference Hungate, R. E. (1966) The Rumen and Its Microbes (Academic, New York), p.12 2nd paragraph
Comments P.12 2nd paragraph:"Most rumen bacteria are cocci and short rods occurring in various sizes, but usually within the range of 0.4-1.0µm in diameter and 1-3µm long. The great majority can be identified accurately only after axenic culture, but some species with a distinctive morphology can be identified microscopically (Moir and Masson, 1952)."
