Comments p.243 2nd paragraph:”To date, lymphocyte size has been determined by heterogeneous planimetric [refs 6, 7] and electron optic [refs 9, 14, 15] means or by particle analysers [refs 1, 3, 4, 5, 16, 20, 21] in only small groups of normal controls and patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The lymphocyte volumes (or diameters) varied considerably from 142 to 265 fl (or 5.0 to 11.0µm) in normal subjects and from 148 to 280 fl (or 4.5 to 10.0µm) in patients with CLL and also overlapped extensively (Table 1). Small lymphocytes were correlated just as well with a better prognosis [refs 4, 6] as with a poorer outcome of CLL [ref 14], or a relationship was not found [refs 10, 12].”
