Comments p.134 left column 2nd paragraph:”Various investigations have been carried out with the aid of a stomach tube, by means of which small samples of stomach contents can be withdrawn after fixed periods of time. When the fluid withdrawn is clear gastric juice, the stomach is said to have emptied (adequate sampling of the stomach contents can be tested by withdrawing juice into a syringe and discharging four times). Using this method, Table 4 was compiled by Hawk et al. [primary source]: it demonstrates very clearly the variability of the gastric emptying time for different types of food: proteins and fat particularly delay emptying.”
