Comments "The number of PSUs in AAP bacteria can be calculated from the amount of BChl a per cell. BChl a content varies from 0.4×10^-19mol/cell to nearly 8×10^-19mol/cell among cultivated AAP bacteria, nearly the same range observed for natural AAP bacterial communities (Table 3). These pigment levels are > 10-fold lower than in anaerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria and in cyanobacteria (Kolber et al., 2001 Koblížek et al., 2005 Yurkov, 2006). The number of BChl molecules per PSU appears to be rather similar among various AAP bacteria (about 34), with most (28) associated with the light harvesting antenna complex while the others (four Bchl a and two bacteriopheophytin a) reside in the reaction centre (Yurkov and Beatty, 1998 Koblížek et al., 2010). Assuming 34 BChl per PSU, [researchers] estimate that the number of PSU per cell varies from < 1000 to over 10 000 for cultivated AAP bacteria (Table 3). The average of estimates for natural AAP bacterial communities is about 1700 PSU per cell (Table 3)." See notes beneath table
