Amount of extracted genome

Range nonreplicating genomic RNA 1μg/g leaf tissue: replicating genome 1mg/g leaf tissue
Organism Turnip yellow mosaic virus (TYMV)
Reference Rao AL. Genome packaging by spherical plant RNA viruses. Annu Rev Phytopathol. 2006 44: 61-87. p.81 left columnPubMed ID16480335
Method "To study the requirements for TYMV RNA encapsidation, TYMV CP [coat protein] was expressed in trans from a specialized mRNA, while a nonreplicating gRNA with authentic 5' and 3' termini was separately expressed."
Comments "The nonreplicating genome had a mutation in the active site of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Although the nonreplicating gRNA was present at much lower levels (1µg/g leaf tissue) than the replicating genome (1mg/g leaf tissue), most of the RNA present in leaves was encapsidated."
