Method Primary source abstract: "By monitoring fluorescently labeled lactose permease with single-molecule sensitivity, [researchers] investigated the molecular mechanism of how an Escherichia coli cell with the lac operon switches from one phenotype to another."
Comments "In turn, each mRNA produces ~50 LuxR dimers before it is degraded. This is a rather high translation rate. However, it is comparable with the large burst size (~100 monomers) measured in E. coli when the repressors completely dissociate from the Lac operon (primary source)."
