Method "Using electron spin resonance spin-probe methodologies (Belkin et al., 1987 Belkin & Packer, 1988), [researchers] have measured both cytoplasmic (pH[cyt]) and intrathylakoid (pH[thy]) pH values, as presented in Table 2."
Comments "An average internal pH value (pH[av]) is also included, since this is the parameter which eventually determines internal ammonium concentration. Data for two other cyanobacteria are included for comparison. As can be seen from the data in Table 2, pH[av] in Spirulina is 1.1-1.2 units higher than in Anacystis nidulans and Agmenellum quadruplicatum."
