Duration of stages of the cycle of the seminiferous epithelium

Range Table - link
Organism Mouse Mus musculus
Reference Oakberg EF. Duration of spermatogenesis in the mouse and timing of stages of the cycle of the seminiferous epithelium. Am J Anat. 1956 Nov99(3):507-16. p.513 table 3PubMed ID13402729
Method Periodic acid-Schiff technique
Comments "Application of the periodic acid-Schiff technique to mouse testis reveals 16 stages of spermiogenesis. The first 12 of these stages correspond to one cycle of the seminiferous epithelium, and have been used to establish the developmental sequences occurring during germ cell renewal in the mouse (Oakberg, ’56, in this number)....Frequency of stages was obtained by scoring 250 randomly selected tubule cross-sections from each of the 12 control mice (table 3). On the basis of these results, the 207-hour estimate of cycle length obtained was apportioned among the different tubule stages." See notes beneath table
