Comments "Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is a small, motile, deltaproteobacterium that is a predatory invader of other gram-negative bacteria. It occupies an intraperiplasmic niche and kills, digests, and lyses its host, the prey cell. The predatory (host-dependent, or HD) process is summarized in Figure 1. Although there is a rare axenic host-independent (HI) growth phase that has been produced in laboratory conditions, the rapid replication of small, motile Bdellovibrio cells usually occurs in 2–3 hours by invasion (Figure 2a) and digestion of prey and the ultimate replication (Figure 2b) and release of more rapidly swimming Bdellovibrio progeny (Figure 1)."
