Comments "Mathematically, the empirical measures listed in Table I can be examined under different sets of circumstances and the results compared with the existing knowledge base. For example, the assumption of a 14-d turnover time for the 75,346 cells in the nucleated epidermal compartment yields a replacement rate of 224 cells per hour. Similar calculations for the 17,778 corneocytes in the stratum corneum yield a replacement rate of 52.9 cells per hour."
