Comments P.288 right column bottom paragraph: "The presence of these compounds in cultures of S. cerevisiae is probably not a result of cell lysis. This can be concluded from the fact that in cultures of both S. cerevisiae and C. utilis only 15-20 mg/l of protein was found in the culture fluid under steady-state conditions (at a cell concentration of 6.25 g/l). Assuming that this protein is due to lysis of 40 mg of cells and that the specific cell volume is 2 ml/g cells, the intracellular concentration of, for example, 2-oxoglutarate should have been as high as 750 mM." Specific cell volume, which is the ratio of cell volume per cell dry weight, is not constant but depends on growth rate and physiology.
