Doubling time at protoheme concentrations above 615 pmoles/ml

Range 3 to 4 Hours
Organism Bacteria Bacteroides melaninogenicus
Reference Rizza V, Sinclair PR, White DC, Cuorant PR. Electron transport system of the protoheme-requiring anaerobe Bacteroides melaninogenicus. J Bacteriol. 1968 Sep96(3):665-71. p.667 left column top paragraph and fig.1PubMed ID4308026
Method The doubling time was defined as the time necessary for the absorbance to double between bacterial densities of 0.07 and 0.35mg (dry weight)/ml. The absorbance was measured in round tubes, 13 mm in diameter, with a Spectronic-20 colorimeter (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, N.Y.) at 750 nm.
