Comments This survey includes soluble proteins, membrane-bound proteins, and structural proteins. Monomers are in the minority, composing only about one fifth of the protein species. Dimers and tetramers are far more common. Homooligomers also predominate: 79% of oligomers with from 2 to 12 subunits are homooligomers, whereas only 21% form heterooligomeric complexes.
