Rate in which T cells are exported from thymus

Range 10^6-2×10^6 T cells/day
Organism Mouse Mus musculus
Reference Kenneth M. Murphy, Paul Travers, Mark Walport, Janeway's Immunobiology, 7th edition 2008 Garland Science pp.307
Comments T cells express their receptors and co-receptors in the thymus and mature there for an additional week, when they are exported to the periphery. Unlike B cells emigrating from bone marrow (see BNID 103581), only small numbers of T cells are exported from the thymus.
