Method Total phosphorus was estimated colorimetrically after conversion of the sample to orthophosphate by digestion with perchloric acid for 1 hour at 130-160 C. Lipid-phosphorus fraction: Two milliliter aliquots of a 30 ml alcohol-ether extract are pipetted into 25 ml volumetric flasks, a few drops of water are added, and the organic solvents are evaporated on a boiling water bath. One milliliter of 70 per cent perchloric acid is added, and the sample is digested at 130-160 C as for the total phosphorus determination.
