Method The atmospheric Two herbaceous C3 annual plants, soybean [G. max (L.) Merr.] and velvet-leaf (A. theophrasti Medic.) were grown in controlled environment chambers in two separate experiments. A. theophrasti was grown at either 36 Pa CO2 (current ambient) or 73 Pa CO2 (elevated) the length) connected to a circular plenum supplied with CO2 gas by a highly regulated computer-based control system. Nearby control sites of equivalent design and plant composition are at ambient atmospheric CO2 levels.and G. max was grown at a preindustrial CO2 partial pressure (25 Pa) and a greatly elevated CO2 (100 Pa).
Comments Mitochondrial sizes in low and high CO2 treatments are statistically equivalent, as reported in the text. Relative counts of mitochondria per unit cell area represent differences in mitochondrial area. Elevated/ ambient ratio=1.6
