Mean dry mass (male)

Range 0.219-0.304 mg
Organism Fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster
Reference Worthen, W.B., Latitudinal Variation in Developmental Time and Mass in Drosophila melanogaster. 1996. Evolution. 50(6) link p.2527 table 4
Method P.2527 caption to table 4: "Mean comparisons for mean dry mass (mg) of males and females from eight populations of Drosophila melanogaster sampled along a 25˚S latitudinal gradient in eastern Australia, raised at four different temperatures (interaction effects were not statistically significant, Table 2). For each comparison, means followed by the same letter are not significantly different (Bonferroni t-tests, P=0.05). See Table 1 for key to populations."
Comments P.2526 left column 3rd paragraph: "Adult fly dry mass varied as a function of population and temperature, but the interaction effects were insignificant (Table 2). Flies were significantly larger at 18˚C than when raised at higher temperatures (Table 4)." The variation in the mass of Drosophila is primarily due to temperature. See BNID 110030
