Osmolarity of newly extruded egg

Value 400 mosmol/kg
Organism Cod Gadus morhua
Reference J. Davenport, S. Lønning, E. Kjørsvik, 2006, Osmotic and structural changes during early development of eggs and larvae of the cod, Gadus morhua L. Journal of Fish Biology 19 (3) 317-331
Comments Newly extruded cod eggs have a similar osmoconcentration to maternal blood, maternal ovarian fluid and paternal semen. After extrusion, average egg osmolarities rise rapidly to about 520 mosmol kg-1 due the formation of a perivitelline space
