In S. enterica there are more than 2000 separate
serotypes based on differences in carbohydrate structures,
such as LPS, and also flagella antigens (primary source). Over 4,000 serovars in genus Salmonella according to wiki. See Steele-Mortimer O. 2008 PMID 18304858 p.38 left column: "The Salmonella enterica species is made up of a group of over 2000 highly related serovars, which are 95–99% identical at the genetic level."
