Moreover, they are all consistent with earlier analyses of protein polymorphisms (Nei and Graur 1984) and of nucleotide polymorphisms (Li and Sadler 1991 Takahata, Satta, and Klein 1995) that estimated the long-term effective human population size as on the order of 10^4."
