Size of the most abundant proteins in SDS-PAGE gels of plant extracts

Range 20 to 60 (~200 to 600aa) kDa
Organism Plants
Reference Tiessen A, Pérez-Rodríguez P, Delaye-Arredondo LJ. Mathematical modeling and comparison of protein size distribution in different plant, animal, fungal and microbial species reveals a negative correlation between protein size and protein number, thus providing insight into the evolution of proteomes. Comments Proteomic surveys show that the most abundant proteins in SDS-PAGE gels of plant extracts are in the range of 20-60 kDa (~200-600 aa) with very few proteins appearing in the range below 10 kDa (data not shown).
