Comments "For E. coli [2,15,24] and yeast [3,4], the RNA/protein ratio has been extensively correlated with growth rate: faster growing cells have an increased proportion of RNA relative to protein. [Researchers] observe these growth-rate-dependent changes in chemical composition directly as changes in dry density, since the average density of proteins is lower than of RNA (Table 2)."
