Maximal rate of oxygen evolution

Value 710 µmol O2/mg chlorophyll/hour Range: ±23 µmol O2/mg chlorophyll/hour
Organism Cyanobacteria Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942

Method "Oxygen evolution in whole cells (10 µg chlorophyll) was measured in BG-11 media in the presence of 1 mM artificial electron acceptors DCBQ [2,6-dichloro-p-benzoquinone] or DMBQ [2,5-di-methyl-p-benzoquinone] (Eastman Kodak). This electron acceptor concentration yielded maximal rates of oxygen evolution for all four strains. Attempts to improve the assay including the addition of 1 or 5 mM K3Fe(CN) 6 as a terminal electron acceptor in the presence of either DCBQ or DMBQ did not enhance oxygen evolution rates."
Comments Value taken for the WT Berkeley strain of PCC 7942 from table III. Range is standard error of replicated measurements.
