Method (Primary source abstract:) "Using diffusing latex beads to monitor membrane flow."
Comments "In many cells, including growing neurons, there is a rapid exchange of membrane between the plasma membrane and internal stores. On axons, membrane could be added at ~50mm^2/min at the growth cone and taken in at the cell body (primary source). Under swelling conditions, endocytosis is inhibited in mast cells (Dai et al., 1997)." Note-ref gives units of "mm^2/min", however this seems in error as primary source gives units of "µm^2/min"
