"Application of the periodic acid-Schiff technique to mouse
testis reveals 16 stages of spermiogenesis. The first 12 of these
stages correspond to one cycle of the seminiferous epithelium,
and have been used to establish the developmental sequences
occurring during germ cell renewal in the mouse (Oakberg, ’56, in this number)....Data showing the progressive disappearance of cell generations
are given in table 1. Curves were fitted for disappearance
of each cell type, and time intervals between successive
curves were read at the 50% point. This procedure resulted in a combined estimate of 8.566 days, with a standard error
of .379 days." See note beneath table |
