Method "A central goal of genome analysis is the comprehensive identification of all human genes. This task remains challenging, but is greatly aided by the near-complete sequence together with other improved resources (such as expanded cDNA collections, genome sequence from other organisms and better computational methods)."
Comments "The total length covered by the coding exons is approximately 34 Mb or approximately 1.2% of the euchromatic genome, the untranslated regions of the transcripts are estimated to cover another approximately 21 Mb or approximately 0.7% of the euchromatic genome." Note-Elgar et al., 2008 PMID 18514361 also give value of >98% for non-protein coding part of the genome
